Vancouver Public Schools is beginning an important conversation about where we are today and where we need to go next.

Superintendent Dr. Rocky Torres-Morales invites VPS students, staff, families, and community members to join him for one of six Understanding & Insight Sessions this September.

During his first year as superintendent, Dr. Torres-Morales is focused on two priorities that are closely connected to the future of our district:

  • Improving academic outcomes for every student
  • Returning VPS to long-term financial stability

These sessions are an opportunity to better understand both.

Dr. Torres-Morales will share information about our students’ academic performance, our district’s current financial picture, and some of the challenges and opportunities ahead. Just as importantly, he wants to know more from you.

Participants will have the opportunity to talk with one another, share what they are seeing and experiencing, and provide insights about what VPS should consider as we determine the path forward.  Information from these conversations will be collected and themes generated to help inform next steps for VPS.

You do not need to attend the session at your neighborhood high school. Please choose the one date and location that works best for you. Each session will cover the same information and provide the same opportunities to participate.

These are important conversations that will help inform the direction of Vancouver Public Schools moving forward. We want our community to have a clear understanding of where we are, and a meaningful opportunity to give input on how we should plan to move forward to reach our goals.
