Black Student Union (BSU)

Black Student Union (BSU) is a place of empowerment, inclusion, and education at Fort Vancouver High School Center for International Studies. Our goal is to create a space where students can learn about Black American and African culture, safely discuss issues facing people of color in the United States, become active members in the community to effect change, and empower Black students. Our club organizes poetry nights, movie nights, current events discussions, and our annual Night of Afro Black Excellence in which we showcase Black and African centric art, poetry, music, dance, fashion, food, and much else. All are welcome!

Chem Club

This club allows students to cultivate their interest in chemistry in an informal environment, without the pressure of being graded, to reinforce the relevance of chemistry in everyday life and to introduce students to the possibility of future study or employment in the chemistry field. In addition, this club offers students the opportunity to perform community service. The club meets on alternating Mondays and Fridays at 2:15 p.m. in room 520.

Culinary Arts—SkillsUSA Club

The Culinary Arts–SkillsUSA Club is open to students who are currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program of choice. We meet during school to build our leadership and craftsmanship skills. We align our leadership skills with the national SkillsUSA guidelines and build our skills to culminate in a regional skills and leadership competition. Each student in the club becomes a member of SkillsUSA.

Drama Club

Drama Club is a great way to get involved with Fort’s theater productions. In Drama Club, you will be able to work hands-on in every aspect of theater: acting, writing, set building, publicity and much more. Join Drama Club if you’re serious about theater, serious about having fun and serious about making your years at Fort Vancouver the best they can be. The Drama Club meets on Thursdays at 2:15 p.m. in room 316.

FFA/Horiculture/NRC Club

Students have the opportunity to work in the greenhouse and garden and/or participate in FFA (a Career and Technical Skills organization) that develops their potential for leadership, personal and career success through agriculture education and contests. The club meets on Thursdays at 2:15 p.m. in room 800.

International Club

The goal of this club is to have different ethnic groups under the umbrella of the International Club to teach culture through dance, music and art. This club is responsible for organizing International Family Night (with help from the ASB), in addition to other activities that will take place throughout the school year.

Gender and Sexuality Acceptance Club

The Fort Vancouver Gender and Sexuality Acceptance Club’s purpose is to provide a safe space and support group for people of all genders and sexualities. The club meets on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in room 363.

Key Club

The Key Club is a nationwide organization that works with the Kiwanis clubs in the immediate area and supports community involvement via fundraising and volunteering to help nonprofit organizations. Community service projects include helping senior citizens with yardwork, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, participating in Walk and Knock, collecting food for homeless, working with elementary schools, fundraising for Doernbecher, etc. Students may choose to do all or a few of these activities. They must earn 20 hours of community service for the whole year. The club meets on Tuesdays at 2:15 p.m. in room 518.

MEChA

The purpose of this club is to practice being good people. Since we consider ourselves an activist/community service club, we learn about rights and our culture and ethnicity. Our motto: “If you want a difference, first you have to be the difference.” Our goal also is to help dreamers (people born in Mexico) learn about what they need to do in order to be able to go to college. Our mission is for everyone in MEChA to go to college. Membership is open to all Fort Vancouver High School students. MEChA meets on Mondays at 2:15 p.m. in room 208 or 241.

Metal Fabrication Club

This club is organized to provide students with experience beyond the classroom in developing systematic thinking and critical reasoning skills applicable to a vocational setting. In the past, various projects have been completed using materials and technology to solve real-world problems in a style similar to the show “Monster Garage.” The emphasis is on developing innovative solutions to fun problems. The club meets on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. in room 430.

National Honor Society

National Honor Society is comprised of high-achieving students, who are invited to join NHS if they have a cumulative 3.5 GPA after the first semester of their sophomore year. This prestigious, nationally based club performs community service and academic club service. The club meets on alternating Tuesdays at 7 a.m. in room 520.

Red Cross Club

The Red Cross Club partners with the Vancouver Red Cross chapter and assists in many community events outside of Fort Vancouver High School. Our most visible Fort activities are our two annual blood drives. Club members do not have to be part of the Medical Arts Magnet. The club meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 2:15 p.m. in room 509.

SkillsUSA–Video/Photo/Graphic Design

SkillsUSA is a student leadership club that competes at the regional, state and national levels in both technical and leadership contests. To join, students must be currently enrolled or have been previously enrolled in a vocational program. The dues are $25 for regional, state and national membership.
