Go Ready! Back-to-School-Readiness Festival
The first day of school is coming. Will you be ready? Gear up for the first day by attending Go Ready!, a free back-to-school-readiness festival for VPS students and their parents. The event will be held Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hudson’s Bay High School, 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd.
Free sports physicals
Physicals are required for middle and high school students who plan on participating in intramural sports, band or cheer. Free sports physicals for Vancouver students will be held at two locations in August.
Aug. 9, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Hudson’s Bay High School, located at 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd. No appointment is necessary. Students whose last name begins with an A through K will be served between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students whose last name begins with an L through Z will be served between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Aug. 16, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Fort Vancouver High School, located at 5700 E. 18th St. No appointment is necessary. Students whose last name begins with an A through K will be served between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students whose last name begins with an L through Z will be served between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Students should bring the WIAA sports physical form with them and have already completed the medical history portion. They should wear loose-fitting shorts and T-shirts. A student who is not accompanied by a parent or guardian must bring a signed permission slip.
Students with known cardiac, asthma, diabetes and/or seizure-related issues or other conditions of concern cannot be served. If an abnormality is found, the student will be referred to a primary care provider before being cleared for the sport.
Some children may be eligible for free or low-cost medical, dental and vision coverage through Washington state’s Apple Health for Kids. You can find out more information and/or apply at the physical. If you would like to apply, please bring proof of household income, birth certificates for the child(ren) who will be covered and picture IDs for children 16 years or older.
These physicals are provided by volunteers and are meant to target those athletes with difficulty accessing health care or those who do not have health insurance. These exams are not meant to replace regular health visits with your primary care provider. If you have access to primary care, please have your sports physical performed there.
